La tétée d'accueil : quelles sont les raisons qui incitent les femmes à la réaliser ?

Abstract : Objectives - First moment breastfeeding is done in delivery room by a woman not planning to breastfeed or undecided on breastfeeding. Although it is similar to natural breastfeeding regarding its technical aspect, it is different regarding human, emotional, affective stakes and also nutritional stakes. We are therefore interested in the value of first moment breastfeeding for mothers who chose this practice.
Tools and Methods - We conducted a study based on 24 semi-structured interviews from July to October 2015 with patients who performed first moment breastfeeding. These interviews took place between the first and the third day following birth in a type 3 maternity ward.
Results - Thus, our study showed that women know the benefits of colostrum but it is usually not the main decision criteria. They consider having received relevant and unbiased information and chose to perform it mainly for a first contact with their babies, but also as a decision tool for ulterior nutrition decision. First moment breastfeeding is deemed really positive by mothers. It is thus important to allow a time to perform it with the help of health professionals, midwives being the special interlocutor of mothers.
