Influence du niveau d'activité physique des parturientes sur les issues obstétricales : une étude observationnelle menée auprès des accouchées de la maternité de type 3 de la région Auvergne en 2015

Abstract : Background : Despite the numerous recommendations made by Health Boards and Authorities, advising pregnant women to take regular physical activity, women still remain unconvinced of the benefits. Therefore the main objective of this study was to assess the effects of physical activities on obstetric issues. Study design : An observation study was carried out in a Class 111 maternity hospital in Auvergne during the period end October 2015 through end November 2015. Questionnaires were distributed to 170 women hospitalized post childbirth, and fulfilling the study criteria, to assess their amount of physical activity. The obstetrical data was obtained from their individual medical files. Results : 120 women were analysed. The results demonstrated the benefits of physical exercise by the reduction of pathologies during pregnancy in 57,41pc of cases for pregnant women who had moderate physical activity. This rose to 63,41pc for pregnant women who had intense physical exercise. This should be compared to only 36.6pc of pregnant women who had not been physically active or sedentary (p = 0,05). Discussion : The small scale of the study and the difficulty women experienced in assessing their level of physical activities mean that it is difficult to reach formal conclusions based on the data analysis. However, the study confirmed the majority of text book dat. The benefit of sport is clear, but it is difficult to assess the required intensity.
