Évaluation à distance de la prise en charge par le RéPPOP Aquitaine des enfants âgés de 8 à 12 ans en surpoids et obèses en 2011-2012

Abstract : Introduction: since 1998, childhood obesity has been recognised by the World Health Organization as a major public health issue worldwide due to their short-, mid- and long-term consequences for health. The RePPOP Aquitaine network, which was established in southwest France in 2006 to prevent and treat pediatric obesity, offers individualised and multidisciplinary healthcare management for obese and overweight children for a maximum duration of two years. A recent published study confirmed that this multidisciplinary treatment had a significant positive effect on pediatric obesity with 75.,5% of children who had decreased their corpulence during the care management. The aim of this study was to assess the long-term evolution of children's corpulence after the end of the care management in the RePPOP. Patients and Methods: children aged from 8 to 12 years old at the inclusion (baseline) in « RéPPOP » in 2011-2012 were included. The anthropometric data at baseline and at the end of the care management were collected through a digital medical file filled in by the referring physician. The long-term anthropometric data were collected thanks to a telephone survey among family, between march and December 2016. The long-term impact of the RePPOP care management was assessed by changes in the body mass index (BMI) Z score, between baseline and the end of care management and between the end of care management and the phone survey. Results: the phone survey was conducted among 287 families, 4.4 years after the end of the care management in the RéPPOP. Long-term anthropometric data were collected among 172 children (49.4% of girls - mean age = 14.5y.old). The average BMI Z score was +2.45±1.17 DS at baseline, +2.95±1.02 at the end of the care management and +2.45±1.17DS at the phone call. A decrease of corpulence during the care management in the RéPPOP was observed (ΔBMI Z score baseline- End of the care management = -0,34±0.67), as well as 4,4 years after the care management (ΔBMI Z score End of the care management - phone call = -0.50±0.98), with Δ BMI Z score=-0.84±0.97 between baseline and the phone call. Conclusion: the care management offered by the RéPPOP Aquitaine has a long-term positive impact on pediatric obesity.
