Prise en charge par le médecin généraliste de l’entourage du patient alcoolodépendant : évaluation des attentes de l’entourage

Abstract : Introduction: despite we identify the pain of People in Relation with Alcoholic Patients (PRAP), few research studies focus on the specific medical care of PRAP or their expectation concerning general practice. In order to inform about possible interaction between PRAP and general practitioner (GP), we questioned the PRAP directly. Method: the data collection of this interdisciplinary, descriptive and quantitative study was performed using a self-assessment questionnaire addressed to the 83 PRAP. We targeted those who participated in the "entourage“ group of the alcoholic department of Beaujon hospital, Clichy, from 2012 to 2014. Results: among the 46 answers, a large majority confirmed the necessity of specific help for themselves. They are looking for, first, attentiveness and support, then, advice to help alcoholic, and finally, information about the disease. GP is considered as the primary care provider regarding alcohol disease (36 % of answers). PRAP gave them a great level of confidence and 2/3 wished they asked about the existence of an alcohol issue in their relatives. Half of the answers would like to help the alcoholic patient in relation with. Conclusion: our study aims at justifying the role of the GP in the medical care and support strategy of the PRAP. Our results confirm the weight of attentiveness and support in this help relation and the need of having information about specific PRAP disorders. Being concerned about those disorders highlights the importance of dedicate proposal for relatives inside alcoholic care network.
