Préservation de la fertilité : évaluation des connaissances et des pratiques des médecins ayant une activité oncologique en territoire d’Aquitaine

Abstract : Introduction: many patients do not benefit from fertility preservation despite a diagnosis of cancer due to lack of information prior to initiation of treatment. The objective of this study is to evaluate the knowledge and practices in oncofertility of doctors who deal with patients with cancer in the territory of Aquitaine. Patients and methods: we carried out a prospective study in a French Region (Aquitaine) by conducting an anonymous questionnaire sent by e-mail between February and June 2017, to doctors and pediatricians involved in the oncology sector. Results: the study was proposed to 450 practitioners from the Aquitaine region, 9 pediatricians from the university hospital center of Bordeaux and 24 pediatricians working in the regional hospitals (RH) of Aquitaine. 30% of doctors rarely or never report the risks of hypo fertility related to cancer treatments. 25% report difficulties in referring patients to oncofertility consultation, of which 37% report a lack of knowledge regarding the techniques of fertility preservation. More than 50% of RH pediatricians rarely or never report the consequences of cancer treatments on fertility for pubertal patients. 36% of oncopediatricians encounter difficulties in referring their patients to oncofertility clinics. Conclusion: this survey revealed a lack of information by patients on the consequences of cancer treatments on the fertility. Results highlight difficulties encountered by doctors in referring patients to oncofertility consultations. A majority of doctors considers themselves to be insufficiently informed about techniques fertility preservation. Improvements are needed in order to systematize the information of patients as regards their fertility during their cancer treatments.
