Influence du ré-entrainement à l’effort des membres supérieurs sur la dyspnée chez les patients atteints de BPCO

Abstract : Use of the upper limbs alters the breathing which becomes rapid, shallow and irregular. It is therefore essential not to neglect the upper limbs during pulmonary rehabilitation. Method : 10 patients suffering from COPD in stage 2 or 3 according to GOLD, randomized into 2 groups, took part in this feasibility study. One group received endurance training of the upper limbs (n=6) and the other strength training (n=4), combined with a classic programme of pulmonary rehabilitation. Results : The impact of dyspnea during normal everyday activities is reduced in the group having followed strength training, but the improvement in functional capacities is greater after endurance training. The study does not allow us to determine which type of training is the best.
