Les pratiques informelles d’évaluation de l’information des adolescents sur les médias sociaux

Abstract : This dissertation looks at the strategies deployed by teenagers to evaluate information in the context of social media. Social media plateforms are popular with young people who are increasingly using them as an information source. While the nature of these plateforms makes the viral spread of false information possible, evaluating the information they contain is complex. The aim of this study is therefore to find out if teenagers understand the need to evaluate information, to identify the strategies put in place by teenagers and to assess if some of these strategies are specific to social media. The study consisted in a set of interviews and an on-line questionnaire. The results show that middle-school students are aware of the need to evalute information on social media. Some of them put in place informal information evaluation strategies. The strategies included reading commentaries and checking users’ profile, which can be described as specific to social media.
