Place de la sage-femme libérale auprès des femmes victimes de violences conjugales

Abstract : Goals: The study’s goals were analysing the midwives’ practices on domestic violence but also identifying and orienting the victims. Material and methods: To answer to our problematic, Ms. Champagne and I decided to conduct semi-directive interviews with twelve liberal midwives of Seine et Marne between July 2017 and January 2018. The survey approched several topics: the general information of the one interviewed and the practices of midwives regarding domestic violence. They were asked about the possible signs of conjugal violence that they spot in a woman, the risks for the victim (pregnant or not), the training carried out then the identification and orientation of the patient at the exit of the cabinet. Results: The study showed that detecting a domestic violence was not systematic. As a result, it is not yet part of current practice for liberal midwives. They do not necessarily feel comfortable with the issue. Some of them do not prefer to put it by modesty or do not think about it. Howover, caregivers are well aware of the negative consequences that a conjugal violence can have on a woman and her child. Yet, the detection of abuse with evocative signs is more realized. Regarding the orientation and support of victims, it is not yet optimal because of a lack of initial and ongoing training.
