Abus et résistances internes de prisonnières femmes incarcérées aux États-Unis de la fin du 20e siècle à nos jours

Abstract : Female inmates have been increasingly present in the prison landscape of the United States since the 1980s, also widely unknown from the general public, and have thus led to new organizational logics within this previously masculinized space. In this space, women are even less able to escape sexism and androcentrism, experienced through various prison abuses visible and/or invisible in inmates’ health condition, sexual abuse or sexual-gendered injustice, than those who encounter these discourses in (their everyday lives in) our so-called “free society”. Between impoverishment, enforcement of criminal identities, and discrimination, individual or collective internal resistance from female detainees develops, coexists, and asserts itself – a resistance to repressive, societal, sexual, and gendered norms has been intertwined with plural core powers. Heteronormativity, homonationalism, and patriarchy are frequently denounced by those individuals within this area of negotiation, exchange, power, and control that are prisons. In spite of prison abuses, the queerness of some female prisoners is presently advancing and it has been destabilizing the normative patterns of women, genders, and sexualities in the society and prisons of the United States
