Impact des politiques publiques dans la mise en place d'alternatives aux antibiotiques dans la production animale

Abstract : Nowadays, antibacterial resistance represents an important public health issue worldwide. It is a real threat to the health of humans and animals alike. There is an urgent need to reduce the use of antibiotics in order to tackle the spread of resistance genes and therefore solutions to replace them should be investigated. Pharmaceutical companies and their research laboratories are already working on the development of alternatives to antibiotics for their three main use: as growth factors, in the prevention, and in the treatment of bacterial diseases. Some alternatives, acting directly and indirectly on bacteria, are trying to reach the market but some hurdles exist. The role of regulatory and health authorities is therefore essential to circumvent these restraints. They could encourage the different actors by promoting the development, the marketing and the use of alternatives. With public policies, incentives and actions plans, global and local organizations are trying to find solutions by setting up a suitable regulatory and financial environment, which will lead to create a framework in favor of innovation to tackle antibacterial resistance.
