Médiatisation de l'accouchement

Abstract : Context: the media now play an important role in our lives. There is a media expansion of medicalization and particularly of obstetrics. Whether through the internet, news, reality TV, the press or social media, the term of childbirth is increasingly highlighted. As a result, it becomes an important source of information for pregnant women who do not necessarily know the risks that such media coverage may entail. Research question: How does the mediatization of childbirth impact the initial representations of pregnant women? Objectives of the study: to identify the media sources and their contents influencing the social representations concerning childbirth as well as to appreciate the influence of these factors on the feelings and expectations of pregnant women in the birth room. Materials and method: qualitative, phenomenological study, conducted from May 2017 to October 2017. It includes 12 participants selected on a voluntary basis in the department of Bouches du Rhône. The collection of data was done through semistructured interviews so that each participant could express their feelings. Conclusion: this study highlighted that each participant was confronted at least once with the mediatization of childbirth and that this causes a general positive feeling. However, the importance of accompaniment by the health professional is a key point of this memoir, indeed, it is his duty to inform his patient about the dangers that the media may pose. The professional must remain the main source of information of the parturient and that from the beginning to the end of the pregnancy.
