Apport de la thérapie cognitivo-comportementale dans l'amélioration de la qualité de vie des patients douloureux chroniques

Abstract : Introduction : Chronic pain is major health issue in France. It concerns 30% of the population and has physical as well as psychological consequences that can degrade quality of life (QL). According to recommendations, treatment of patients with chronic pain must be multidisciplinary and include cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) which has become a first line treatment. In this study, we measured efficiency of CBT and its effects on QL in patients with chronic pain. Methods: This retrospective descriptive study has been conducted on 29 patients with chronic pain, treated with CBT in the pain management center of Salon Hospital, from May 2017 to May 2018. QL was measured with the SF36 test, before and after one year of treatment. Other data were also measured like, average pain, tiredness-sleep, anxiety-depression and kinesiophobia. Results: Due to a small size sample, the outcomes could not be statistically significant but allow us to extract a trend. Average QL was enhance by 47,3% in one year, with an improvement for 79,3% of the patients and a worsening for 20,7%. Women showed a better improvement of QL than men with 72,2% women improved against 15,5% men. The other data all showed a non-significant improvement. Conclusion: CBT could improve QL in patients with chronic pain. It is a gold-standard treatment against chronic pain, it is low-priced and easy to conduct. The data and trends shown is this study will be confirmed soon in a larger prospective study.
