Prévalence et caractéristiques des troubles nutritionnels chez des patients consultants en médecine générale en Basse-Normandie

Abstract : Introduction: since nutritional disorders have a constantly increasing prevalence, the aim of this study was to evaluate nutritional status and eating behavior in a population of general medicine in Basse-Normandie. Method: a cross-sectional study was conducted in April 2017 from questionnaires sent to general practitioners, randomly selected, and having agreed to participate. Each of them proposed the questionnaire to 20 of their patients seen during a given week. Socio-demographic, clinical data, SCOFF-F test data, and nutritional habits were collected. Results: 582 patients (57% women) were included. The prevalence of obesity in the sample was 25%. Abdominal obesity was found in 70% of patients. 44.3% of patients with normal corpulence had abdominal obesity (p<0.005). A history of eating disorder was known in 14% of patients. 12% of patients had a positive SCOFF-F test. Patients who were overweight were more likely to have a positive SCOFF-F test (OR = 2.48, 95% CI = 1.29-4.76, p<0.006). Food compulsion was found in 27% of patients. Conclusion: the prevalence of abdominal obesity is high and requires screening by measurement of waist circumference by the general practitioner especially in patients with normal bodybuilding or overweight. As eating disorder is also highly prevalent, it is essential to screen for eating disorder in overweight or obese patients before considering any weight loss.
