Rôle de l'alimentation sur les colorations dentaires noires exogènes chez l'enfant : revue systématique de la littérature

Abstract : Black-stains are unsightly dental stains common in pediatric dentistry, with a prevalence of 1 to 20% depending on the country. The understanding of their etiology is essential to allow optimal treatment. The aim of this study was to identify within the scientific literature, the eating habits favoring the occurrence of these stains, and to highlight the mechanisms involved. A research in the Pubmed and Scopus databases allowed to select 15 articles referring to the roles of food, saliva and iron on black-stains. Despite a low level of scientific evidence, it appears that an iron-rich diet seems to be correlated with black-stains. Diet would also influence the salivary properties and the biofilm and thus promote the appearance of black-stains.
