Récit de soi‎ : les adultes Asperger sont-ils plus habiles à l’écrit ? Analyse de courriers personnels adressés au CRA de Picardie

Abstract : This thesis presentsan original analysis of “natural” oral and written corpuses by adults with Asperger syndrome diagnosed by the CRA de Picardie. This research based on natural data, aims to compare the use of the two modes of communication in self-narration, especially withregard to feelings and emotions. Comparison and analysis criteria, which addressed both quantitative and qualitative aspects, were established to address three main assumptions and three operational ones. Firstly, the assumption that a majority of adults diagnosed with Asperger's in the CRA de Picardie had previously sent a personal mail was disproved, since only 47% of them had done so. In addition, the supposed ease with which subjects with Asperger’s write was not borne out by the analysis of the quantity of written words, as 51% of patients were more verbose orally than when writing. Finally, we had assumed that adults with Asperger's would mention their internal and subjective world more in writing, and nearly 86% of the subjects in the cohort discussed these themes in writing. 57% used more terms referring to themselves in writing than they did orally and about 86% described more emotions and feelings in writing than orally. The absence of a control group and the small number of patients within the study cohort indicate that it may not be possible to extrapolate these observations to the whole population of French adults with Asperger syndrome.
