Étude des difficultés s’apparentant à des troubles de l’oralité alimentaire chez l’adulte : par un questionnaire étudiant les profils, manifestations, évolutions, conséquences et la demande de prise en charge orthophonique

Abstract : Feeding disorders are particularly characterized by tactile and/or oral hypersensitivity, slowness and apprehension of meals, food selectivity (taste, texture, temperature, appearance), etc. Studied on children for about twenty years in France, these disorders are a very poorly documented in the French-speaking literature on adults. The purpose of our study is to determine if there are adults presenting symptoms of this disorder, to observe their occurrence, their possible causes, their evolution and their psycho-social consequences. We also tried to highlight the inherited nature of these disorders and to assess the potential demand for speech therapy that could come from these people if they were aware of the qualification of speech therapists in that field. The quantitative and qualitative analysis of data obtained through an online questionnaire allowed us to evidence that there are adults potentially presenting feeding disorders and that their difficulties impact their everyday life, especially for meals in group settings. Feeding disorders, although their symptoms usually seem to diminish with age, persist into adulthood if they are not cared for. In fact, none of the 74 people in the at-risk population of feeding disorders ever consulted a speech-language pathologist during childhood and 68.92% of people with a complain about their diet would like to meet one. Furthermore, the results prove an inherited nature: parents at risk of feeding disorders are more likely to have a child with such difficulties as well. The interviewees emphasized the importance of the diagnosis : we therefore believe it is important to continue research in this area in order to increase awareness of these disorders among the general population and to generalize its diagnosis and care.
