Phytothérapie et traitements complémentaires en oncologie : enquête auprès des patients d’un Centre régional de lutte contre le cancer

Abstract : Complementary treatments (CT) – phytotherapy, homeopathy, aromatherapy and all dietary supplements – are an integral part of the life of many patients followed for a cancer. For more than two years, pharmacists at the Eugène Marquis Center (EMC) have been offering pharmaceutical consultations for patients who are starting oral chemotherapy. Through a patient survey, an inventory of CT consumption could be made. The majority of patients turn to herbal medicine, homeopathy and dietary supplements. Aromatherapy seems less attractive. The important participation in this survey as well as the written comments showed the interest of the patients for the topical theme of complementary treatments. Faced with the growing demand for information, several tools have been put in place at the EMC and projects still need to be developed. While waiting for more validated data, both in terms of efficacy and drug interactions, the pharmacist must remain cautious in his advice.
