La désorientation spatio-temporelle chez la personne âgée ayant la maladie d'Alzheimer : l'apport de la psychomotricité dans la prise en charge des troubles psycho-comportementaux

Abstract : One of the impacts of Alzheimer’s is spatial and temporal disorientation, linked to brain damage and memory loss. This disorientation can trigger the development of psychological and behavioural disorders and make communication between an aged person and their relatives difficult. Why is an aged person, affected by Alzheimer’s, disorientated in time and in space? How can one get in touch with and communicate with them? How can one assist them in moments of psychological and behavioural difficulties? What is the role of psychomotricity skills with disoriented aged people within units dedicated to supporting people with Alzeimer’s? This essay contains a theoretical and clinical discussion concerning the causes and effects of the spatial and temporal disorientation on aged people suffering from Alzheimer’s. Furthermore, I consider the potential of psychomotricity to help in the domains of both verbal and non-verbal communication with aged people, as well as to help the people looking after those suffering from psychological and behavioural disorders.
