Accompagnement parental et intervention précoce : soutien des parents dans la compréhension des troubles réceptifs du jeune enfant avec TSA

Abstract : The new national strategy for autism emphasises the need for early intervention and parental support within the context of autism spectrum disorders (ASD). This is about recognising parental expertise and limiting the impact of ASD on child development. Few studies have looked at parents' expertise regarding their child's receptive capacities. Our two-case study therefore focuses on this by verifying the impact of parental support on their perception. We are also studying the benefits of early intervention on the child's receptive skills and behavioural problems. In order to do so, we make a pre- and post-intervention comparison of the responses to a checklist from the Denver Model, completed by parents and professionals, as well as the child’s number of weekly behavioural problems. Our results show that there is a gap of perception between parents and professionals and that this gap is reduced after parental support. We nuance them by taking into account the child's generalization difficulties and social judgment bias. Receptive skills improve after early intervention, following normal child development which confirms previous studies. However, we obtain conflicting results regarding the number of behavioural disorders. This may be due to the low accuracy of the measurement tool. These results could be confirmed by a study on a larger sample, so they are therefore of interest for research and for the speech therapy clinic, introducing a new intervention model.
