L'adhésion aux soins dentaires chez le patient autiste

Abstract : The practice of odontology in the city office brings the dentist to take care of a panel of patients very different from a clinical point of view. Within the medical multiplicity of the patients we welcome, a category of psychiatric disorder has emerged: autistic spectrum disorder. The theme of autism, including dental care and the ethical issue, must be a part of the reflexion. Our duty as a health practitioner is to provide optimal and supportive care for this category of patients. However, in practice, the principle of benevolence and the intention to care may come up against the will of the patient and his skills. This thesis aims to help taking care of the autistic patient by studying the brakes and triggers of the adhesion to the dental care of this one and his entourage. This reflection must be, for the dentist, the starting point of the management of the autism theme within the dental practice. The first part defines autism. The second part develops the difficulties of cooperation in dental care. The third part details the prevention and management of the patient.
