De l’Union Européenne au projet du Brexit : les scenarios envisageables et les négociations entre le Royaume-Uni et l’Union Européenne

Abstract : The referendum on June, 23th 2016, organized by the former British Prime Minister David Cameron, questioned the maintenance of the United Kingdom in the European Union and led to the Brexit Project. On March, 29th 2017, Theresa May, succeeding David Cameron, invoked Article 50 of the Treaty of the European Union to notify her intention to leave the European Union and put in place the necessary regulatory processes to withdraw the United Kingdom from the EU. A two-year period of negotiations then began, normally leading to a withdrawal agreement and the exit of the United Kingdom on March, 29th 2019. However, this agreement negotiated between the two parties has not been ratified by the British Parliament causing a postponement of the Brexit date several times with a risk of “No Deal” increasingly growing. Both the European and British pharmaceutical industries have anticipated all Brexit contingencies and implemented new measures to prevent drug supply disruptions as of October, 31th 2019, when Brexit is expected to occur. Nowadays, the future relationships between the United Kingdom and the European Union are still in talks and several withdrawal models are possible. These different scenarios are detailed, paying particular attention to the consequences that each of the models could generate both economically and pharmaceutically, particularly for patients.
