Contribution aux études ethnobotanique et phytochimique des espèces Plectranthus neochilus et P.amboinicus de l’île de La Réunion

Abstract : This work was conducted at the Laboratory of Chemistry of Natural Substances and Food Sciences (LCSNSA) in order to study the ethnobotanic and the phytochemistry of two plants found in Reunion Island : Plectranthus neochilus (PN) and Plectranthus amboinicus. This study is divided into two main parts. The first one is about the ethnobotonay by carring out an investigation of the use of the PN by the population. It is mostly used as an infusion of fresh leaves to relieve headaches and pain. The second part consist in the production of a chemical profile of the volatile (essential oil) and non-volatile compounds of three batches of PN of different locations and one bach of PA. As regards essential oils, all of them mainly contain terpenic compound. The difference between batches and species is at the level of the dominant class. It can be represented by oxygenated monoterpene or sesquiterpenes whether hydrocaboned or oxygenated. For the non-volatile compounds, three different extracts were made for the four batches. The first was an aqueous extract mimicking the traditional use, the second with ethyl acetate and one alchoolic (the last two made by ASE). The result is the presence of compounds with a wide range of polarity, with differences and similarities within batches. Whether at the level of essential oils or for non-volatile compounds, a similarity between a batch of PN and PA suggest a confusion of species during collection. The batches of PN are close but have differences that suggest a localization effect on the plant. This work is devided into two parts, one dealing with the ethnobotanical, the second with phytochemistry, both combining literature and the work completed during this study.
