Prévalence de la parodontite chez les patients atteints de polyarthrite rhumatoïde en Martinique (Prepapor Martinique)

Abstract : Several studies have shown a significant relationship between RA and periodontitis and a significant prevalence of periodontitis in patients with RA. Indeed, these two chronic inflammatory diseases share risk factors, clinical criteria and immunological mechanisms in common. Objective: Estimate the prevalence and severity of periodontitis in patients with RA in Martinique. Methods: The study was conducted at Pierre Zobda Quitman University Hospital between July and November 2018, including 90 patients. The periodontal status was evaluated by a full mouth periodontal examination using the clinical loss attachment and the pocket depth. Also, bleeding on probing, plaque index and mobility were measured. A DAS28-CRP measurement was performed on the day of consultation to assess RA activity. The association between the RA activity and the severity of periodontitis was measured by linear regression. Results: The prevalence of periodontitis was estimated at 86.7% with 55.5% moderate periodontitis and 29.8% severe periodontitis. No association between RA and periodontitis was found (p= 0.19, 95% CI = [-0.44 - 0.1]). However, several risk factors were significantly associated with RA. Conclusion: The study reveals a high prevalence of periodontitis in patients with RA in Martinique and the need for oral care in these patients.
