Connaissances des mères sur l'environnement du nouveau-né

Abstract : Introduction: Environmental health has been an emerging issue in recent years. Numerous studies have shown that the environment of the newborn is essential for its proper development. It seemed interesting to study the knowledge of mothers in this field. The research question raised is therefore: what is the knowledge of mothers about the newborn’s environment and perceptions ? Objectives: The main objective of the study is to describe the state of mothers' knowledge of the newborn environment and its perceptions. Methods: This is a quantitative, descriptive, prospective study carried out using a questionnaire intended for patients given birth in the postnatal services of the CHU de la Conception and the CHU de l'hôpital Nord. Results: The main findings show that patients have knowledge but that it is limited in some of the topics that have been studied. Take, for example, sleeping conditions. 33.9% of patients do not properly lie their newborn baby, that is, on their back. And yet the recommendations concerning the sleeping of the newborn date back more than twenty years. 76% of patients replied that they did not receive any information from staff during their maternity stay. Conclusion: Mother’s knowledge of the newborn’s environment and perceptions must be enriched. Health care professionals should be encouraged to educate mothers about this.
