La Maladie d’Alzheimer, l’accueil de jour, l’ergothérapie

Abstract : Introduction : Currently, the French population is aging, increasing the number of people suffering from Alzheimer’s disease. To guarantee the patient’s care, Alzheimer’s plans are implemented, suggesting for example day care centers. Thus, the goal of this dissertation was to define occupational therapy (OT) support in daily life activities in order to improve the patient's quality of life in a day care center. Methods : A qualitative study with semi-structured interviews was chosen. It was based on the Canadian Model of Occupational Performance and Engagement Commitment, life quality, autonomy and independence theories. To answer my question, interviews with three OT working in a day care center have been done. Results : OT care, since the beginning, reduced behavioural disorders and improved social ties from the beginning. It enable people to engage in activities. It also stimulated the patient’s capacities wich could then be kept. Thus, the person at home could have better quality of life. The OT also had an important role to play in the coordination with the teams and the families. Conclusion : OT care seemed to improve the sick person life quality on some points thanks to the proposed activities. Wich promoted autonomy and independence. Suggesting home care as part of the day care center may be considered.
