Abstract : Introduction: early childhood caries (ECC) is a form of caries that affects children under 71 months of age. Materials and methods: a review was conducted on the topic of vertical contamination and a six-question questionnaire was sent to dentists in Nouvelle-Aquitaine. They could transmit their maternal oral sheets. Results: 162 questionnaires and 26 maternal oral sheets were collected. 20.4% of respondents know the etiological factors of vertical contamination. 71.4% of dentists think they know the etiological factors but checked false answers. 69.8% of them discuss this topic with their patients during the maternity oral examination. Conclusion : dental surgeons lack information about vertical contamination.
