Conséquences du régime végétarien/végétalien sur la sphère oro-faciale : revue systématique de la littérature

Abstract : Nowadays we are seeing an increasing interest in nutrition, combined with the search for a healthier life. More and more people are willingly adopting a diet that moves away from the traditional Western way of eating and have decided to move towards a more vegetal diet, more developed in some countries, such as India, for example. Given this observation, it seemed important to us to study the effects that this diet could have, to determine its nature, intensity, extent... Since our diet is known to have a real impact on general health, the same impact on the oral cavity may exist. We therefore identified and analysed the existing scientific information on the consequences of these vegetarian or vegan diets on the flow and composition of saliva, on the tissues of the oral-facial sphere and thus on oral health in general. We pointed out the elements that could challenge the dental surgeon in his position as a caregiver, as well as that of an adviser in preventive actions: what advice should be given to patients based on their diet? It also seems important to look at the situation from a forward-looking perspective by looking at the consequences in relation to time. Is this a fashion phenomenon or a sustainable and positive development for oral health?
