Pratique des médecins généraliste après formation à l’échographie et acquisition d’un échographe à La Réunion

Abstract : Preliminary remarks: The practice of ultrasound in primary care and in general practice shows an essential diagnostic interest. The use of ultrasound has the advantage of being an inexpensive and non-irradiating exam. The practice of ultrasound is starting to democratize amongst French general practitioners in France. However, do training on ultrasound and acquisition of an ultrasound for medical offices change the way of practicing for general practitioners in Reunion? The objective of our study was to explore the modification of representations and practice of general practitioners after training in ultrasound and acquisition of an ultrasound system in the office. Methode: Qualitative study that used the principle of inductive analysis by semi-directed individual interview at ten university general practitioners in Reunion after training in ultrasound and acquisition of an ultrasound system in a medical office. Results: For all general practitioners surveyed, their practice was changed after training and acquiring an office ultrasound system. Such system did not change their clinical exam but was seen as an extension of their exam. It changed the doctor-patient relationship. The ultrasound allowed them to be more complete in their care. It asked for organizational changes. Ultrasound modified the general practitioners' behavior as scouting physicians. The training provided the foundation needed to develop the ultrasound technique and helped to dispel fears. It asked for a self-study afterwards. Ultrasound was a useful technique, a personal pleasure and a non-negligible educational tool. Conclusion: Ultrasound has changed the practice and perception of general practitioner.
