Description de l'état de santé des enfants mafatais en 2018

Abstract : The circus of Mafate, on the island of Reunion is a unique and isolated place. Due to steep terrain and lack of road, it is accessible only by foot. No doctor resides permanently in the circus. Purpose : Describe the health status of resident children in the Mafate Circus. Method : We carried out a descriptive epidemiological study, multicentric, prospective in all schools of the Mafate Circus in June / July 2018. The children, with their health records were examined. A questionnaire was completed by the searcher. Results : We collected 70 questionnaires out of 93 schoolchildren, coming from the eight schools of the circus of Mafate. 80% of children are followed regularly during medical missions in the circus. The results are encouraging in several areas. There is indeed a vaccination coverage rate higher than the rest of the population and a prevalence of overweight significantly less, to correlate with greater physical activity and a lower sedentarity. Progress remains to be made, especially in terms of oral health and speech therapy. Due to isolation, a low socioeconomic level and an insufficiently varied diet, this is a so-called vulnerable population. Conclusion : The mafatais children are generally in good health. The role of medical missions in dispensaries are essential. Emphasis should be placed on education and prevention especially oral health missions.
