Description des canaux de communication entre les médecins généralistes installés et remplaçants

Abstract : Introduction: the number of settled doctors diminishes while there are more and more substitutes. It is still difficult for the general practicioner to find a substitute. Is there a problem for both parties to get in touch? The goal of our study was to identify and measure the usage rate of the communication channels used by the general practicioners and the substitutes. Material and Method: An anonymous survey was sent by the Dordogne and Gironde Departmental Councils to all the settled doctors and the substitutes registered on the databases. Results: 95 settled doctors and 63 substitutes have been included. The settled doctors used a wide panel of communication channels, mostly their social network (60%), the Doctors College (54,7%), and the regional broadcasting list (53,7%). The substitutes mainly used the regional broadcasting list (84,1%) and the social network (66%). No significant differences were found regarding the use of communication channels by the two populations. Discussion: the weak power of our study did not unable us to show a difference in the use of communication channels between the two populations. However, the settled doctors which did not use the regional broadcasting list (a tool widely used by the substitutes) found it more difficult to be replaced. The channels which were evaluated the most practical and efficient are used more. Centralization and improvement of communication channels by an official body were approved by the settled doctors and the substitutes, mentioning perhaps a trust issue. Conclusion: the settled doctors and the substitutes of Dordogne and Gironde use the same communication channels (regional broadcasting list, social network) because they are deemed the most practical and efficient, but an optimization of the way they get in touch is wanted.
