Les médecins généralistes sous-déclarent les effets indésirables liés aux médicaments : quelles pistes pour améliorer les actions de pharmacovigilance ? Résultats d’une enquête en Aquitaine en 2018

Abstract : Introduction: adverse drug reactions (ADRs) are common in general practice but most of these ADRs are not reported to the regional center of pharmacovigilance. Recently, two innovations have occurred in French pharmacovigilance. Patients can now report ADRs, and a website for online reporting was launched. But the problem of underreporting is not solved. We have studied the knowledge, practices and expectations of GPs in Aquitaine about pharmacovigilance. Methods: we conducted a descriptive cross-sectional study. General practitioners were questioned by an online survey sent by e-mail. Results: we investigated 423 responses. GPs were 39 years old on average. Half of them were settled, and the other half were not. 66% of the physicians surveyed had never reported any occurrence, 80% did not know the reporting website and 80% did not encourage their patients to report ADRs. More than half of the GPs felt that their lack of knowledge was a barrier to reporting and over three-quarters were interested in interactions with the CRPV. Less than half of the doctors were in favor of a financial compensation for the declarations. Discussion: most of GPs never report ADRs and their knowledge about pharmacovigilance are insufficient. However, they are interested in this subject and they request more information. We need to increase the visibility of pharmacovigilance. Regular e-mails or training sessions around pharmacovigilance could be an easy way to communicate with GPs and to improve their practices.
