Master Thesis

Intérêt de la pratique d’éducation thérapeutique pour les patients souffrants de schizophrénie, revue de la littérature

Abstract : This thesis proposes a study of the effectiveness and interest of therapeutic education for patients (TEP) suffering from schizophrenia. At first the therapeutic education is defined, and the framework of its practice is recalled. An inventory of existing and validated programs in France for these patients is then presented. The main purpose of this work is to realize a synthesis of the studies exploring the TEP programs effectiveness referred to patients suffering from schizophrenia through a systematic review of the literature. Thirty-six articles are included in this review of the literature and an efficacy is demonstrated on the criteria of re-hospitalization and relapse, symptomatology, knowledge and awareness of patient disorder, and adherence to treatments. On the other hand, there seems to be a positive impact on quality of life, overall and social functioning, stigma and patient satisfaction. The way in which TEP sessions are run, as well as the facilitation techniques and materials are diverse and there is no unequivocal program. Each patient could benefit from structured therapeutic education to optimize their care.
