Stabilité du sens transversal après expansion maxillaire et environnement neuromusculaire

Abstract : The stability of maxillary expansion is at the middle of thoughts of the profession. The hypothesis of our study is based on the multifactorial origin of recurrence of the transverse sense after maxillary expansion including individual factors, functional modulating growth, muscular and mechanical. The growth of the alveolar processes makes the connection between the facial growth and the phenomena of dentition. The study of masticatory function, described by Planas, is particularly interesting because it considerably influences the development of bone bases and dental arches. Early treatment is preferred in order to benefit from the growth potential necessary for the responses to our therapeutic stimuli. With the industrial revolution and food preparation, the decrease in masticatory function in humans is causing an increase in malocclusions. Changing the consistency of chewed foods has a predominant impact on facial growth. To understand the interaction between the chewing function, craniofacial growth and the appearance of dysmorphoses, many studies have been interested in this problem. They have revealed, through a series of animal and / or anthropological experiments, the influence of masticatory constraints on the facial growth response and supported the masticatory-functional hypothesis. The introduction of strong masticatory constraints, for which our masticatory device is naturally programmed, can serve as a powerful therapeutic lever in the stability of our transversal therapies.
