Évaluation de l’efficacité des jeux de rôle sur l’amélioration de l’empathie des étudiants en DFSAM1 à Paris Descartes

Abstract : Objective: the objective of this study is to evaluate the effectiveness of role plays on improving empathy of students in DFSAM1 Paris Descartes. Method: this is a quantitative evaluative study before and after role plays. We used the validated French version of the JSPE-MS as a measurement tool. The primary endpoint was the assessment of students' level of empathy before and after role plays. Secondary outcomes were pre- and post-role assessment of the three dimensions of empathy, and empathy and its dimensions in the following subgroups: women, men, least empathetic students and most students empathetic. The analyzes were done by a Student test by comparing the averages of the JSPE-MS scores. Results: we got 90 answers. We did not find any significant difference in empathy before and after the role plays. We observe the same observation for the different dimensions. There is no difference in empathy and its dimensions before and after role plays for women and men. We find that empathy and its perspective-taking dimension are significantly improved in the less empathic students and conversely decreased in the most empathic students. Conclusion: we have not demonstrated the effectiveness of role plays on improving the level of empathy of medical students. It seems, however, that role plays are beneficial to the least empathic and harmful students who already have high empathy.
