Impact de la réforme de l’obligation vaccinale sur la confiance des parents dans la vaccination

Abstract : In January, 2018, a reform of the vaccinal politics returned eleven compulsory vaccines for the children up to the age of 18 months. The objective of this reform is to improve the vaccinal cover as well as the confidence in vaccines further to the dialogue citizen having taken place in 2016. Objective: estimate the consequences of mandatory vaccination on parental confidence of the parents of children been born in 2017, the last ones not concerned by this obligation. Method: a descriptive transverse investigation was realized between April and October, 2018 in Ile-de-France via a questionnaire distributed randomly to the parents consulting for their children in pediatric emergencies, pediatrician, maternal and child care (“PMI”) or general practitioner. Results: 339 questionnaires were got back (184 in emergencies, 56 with pediatricians, 62 in PMI, 30 with general practitioners). The main outcome is that mandatory vaccination increased confidence in vaccines. 124 (37,8%) parents think that mandatory vaccination increased their confidence in vaccines, 99 (30.2%) had no opinion, and 102 (31.2%) think that this reform did not increase their confidence. 266 (78.7%) parents were “broadly supportive” of vaccination. Among the 40 parents who said that they generally had no confidence in vaccines, 4 (10.5%) said the reform increased their confidence in vaccines. Conclusion: the mandatory vaccination seems to have not strenghened confidence of parents’ children not affected by mandatory vaccination. It seems necessary to establish an information-based strategy and a doctorpatient relationship to strengthen adherence to vaccination.
