Le sport, une nouvelle thérapie ? Ressenti des patients bénéficiant d’un programme d’activité physique adaptée en Isère et en Haute-Savoie

Abstract : Context: Sedentarity is a public health problem and and the benefits of physical activity in primary or secondary prevention are now recognised. Starting in 2016, general practitioners can now prescribe adapted physical activity (APA) to patients suffering from obesity or with a long term illness (ALD). Objective: Evaluate the perception of patients in ALD and/or obese patients participating in APA programs in Isère and in Haute-Savoie with regards to APA. Methodology: A qualitative study with semi-structured, individual interviews, led by two investigators. The participants were voluntary patients, of age, in ALD and/or obese having benefited from APA, recruited through APA associations. Audio data was recorded, transcribed, analysed and triangulated. Results: Sixteen interviews were done in Isère and in Haute-Savoie between February and October 2019. The analysis of results has underlined the vulnerability and fragility of patients on the physical, psychological and social aspects. Through adaptation, APA gave them access to sport, an activity that they could not undertake on their own. Patients claimed that was positive, physically and psychologically. From their point of view, APA was part of their treatment. However, there was a real inequality of access to APA and very few patients actually benefited from it. Various improvements to APA were suggested by patients. Conclusion: APA seems to be a concept to further develop, given the positive experience of patients having benefited from it. Complentary studies will be necessary to evaluate our results and follow the development of APA.
