Usage phytothérapique de la teinture mère de Myrtus communis dans les infections urinaires récidivantes. Évaluation de la satisfaction des patientes.

Abstract : Recurrent cystitis has an impact on the quality of life and is a public health issue regarding the emergence of antibiotic resistance. The mother tincture of Myrtus communis is a phytotherapy used in the prevention of these infections, traditionally in the Mediterranean basin and empirically in our practice. The main objective of this study is to question patients on their satisfaction with this drug, and then to identify the factors associated with greater satisfaction.
This is an observational, cross-sectional study of women in Dr Castanet's practice who have been treated with Myrtus communis TM to prevent recurrence of cystitis. Satisfaction with the drug was assessed using the SatMed-Q® questionnaire. A second questionnaire was used to obtain patient characteristics. Interviews were conducted by telephone. 43 patients were included. The median satisfaction score was 56 [47; 61.5] out of 68. 55.81% of the patients were very satisfied and 23.25% were satisfied with the treatment. Factors significantly associated with greater satisfaction were continuous treatment and postmenopausal status. No serious adverse events were noted.
Patients surveyed reported high satisfaction with Myrtus communis TM. By limiting the number of antibiotic prescriptions, without increasing the risk of major side effects, this treatment would be an interesting preventive solution. However, a randomized versus placebo study is still needed to confirm its effectiveness.
