Mise en place d'une enquête de santé en population générale "Unono wa maore" à Mayotte

Abstract : Mayotte, a group of small islands in the heart of the Indian Ocean in the Comoros archipelago, became the 101st French department in 2011. The territory lacks timely health data necessary for the setting up of prevention and health promotion actions adapted to population needs. In 2018, Santé publique France set up a general population survey "Unono wa Maore". The original Mayotte poll included people from birth to 69 years of age using a questionnaire component and a sampling portion for people 15 years of age and older. At the time of the study's launch, the questionnaire developed in metropolitan France was tested on a sample of 9 people in their native language (Shimaore). The outcomes helped to situate it in the local reality by reworking the issues and grids. A qualitative face-to-face interview of the acceptability of self-sampling was carried out on a sample of 13 individuals. The questionnaire covered STI screening, prevention and perception. With the results, some obstacles to self-sampling were identified and tools were built for the field phase of nurses and investigators. The Epidemiologic studies involve the stringent monitoring of a standard method and a necessity for comparability. Adapting it and the survey tools to the local socio-cultural context is crucial, in particular to take all the specificities of the area of investigation into account and specially to take the people primarily concerned by this public health research to be reckoned with: the individuals.
