Abstract : Background: alimentation’s impact on health is known and the population is questioning more and more about its impact on health and looks for information. The general practitioner (GP) first medical contact has a preventive mission and has a role to play. Objective: to determine the expectations of patients on nutritional advice by the GP. Methods: inductive-deductive qualitative method, with semi-structured individual interviews of patients aged 18 to 65 in Gironde. Maximum variation sampling was done, until data saturation was reached. Thematic content analysis assisted with NVivo 12® software and triangulation by two researchers. Results: patients expect from GP to make the first step. His attitude must be nonjudgmental and caring. Nutritionnal advices should be individually adapted to patient's views on alimentation and on GP’s role on this. In terms of content, GP need to recall the benchmarks, help to select the information and be an element of support and motivation for the patient. Oral counseling is the preferred form for patients. Conclusion: GP should not hesitate to providing nutritional advices. To obtain patient's adherence, his attitude have to be caring and he need to inquire into the patient's viewson alimentation' s concept.
