Étude des liens entre l’exposition aux écrans et les troubles du langage oral chez des enfants âgés entre 4 et 6 ans

Abstract : For several years, screens have taken up a considerable place in our daily life and for children which are exposed to screens early. This (over) exposure is not without consequences, especially for young child who needs exchanges and interactions to a harmonious development. Many scientific studies have shown that screens exposure had a significant impact on child’s development. However, there are few French studies. This study explores the links between screen exposure and language disorders in children from 4 to 6 years old. Parents were asked to complete a questionnaire on children’s use of screen. There were two groups of children: the « cases » one including children with language disorders and the « controls » one including children without language disorders. This study does not indicate statistical links between childhood exposure to screens and the onset of language disorders. Nevertheless, the results show that screens exposure time by parents is positively correlated with screen exposure time by children. Screen times were similar in the two groups of children, but there are differences regarding the use of screens which require specific review of the results. In addition, the study looked at the habits and parent’s opinions about screens at home. This innovative data opens up new perspectives in terms of risks’ prevention linked to screens, but also suggest guidelines in order to encourage them to reflect on their own use and to have reasoned use of screens.
