BHNS « light » : les composantes essentielles de la qualité de l'offre de transport public : quels outils pour rehausser l'attractivité des lignes de bus dans un contexte de maîtrise des investissements ?

Abstract : While the tramway has a real success among citizens and has a strong attractiveness, bus networks seem to suffer from a less positive image, even archaic, eventhough it is essential part of the traveling chain of public transport. BHLS, which follows the tramway footprints, represents an intermediate layer in urban transport. Iconic examples seem to prove its success in terms of attractiveness. Today, the communities are interested to develop this mode of transport in their territory. Benchmarking of the French examples shows that they have been implemented differently. According to benchmarking, it is possible to focus on three main factors impacting on the attractiveness of the bus transportation mode: the supply quantity, performance and image of the bus line. This work seeks to identify the key success factors of a BHLS and especially the components that appear to be essential to effectively enhance their attractiveness in a context of controlling investments. A "light" BHLS product is defined in this study which includes only "substantial" BHLS characteristics.
