Stratégies d'exploration visuelle utilisées en golf : étude de deux golfeuses en condition naturelle

Abstract : This work focuses on visual exploration strategies put in place by golfers under natural conditions of practice. Three visual strategies common to all sports have been highlighted in the literature: the foveal point, the visual anchor and the visual pivot. In addition, a strategy specific to aiming activities, such as Golf, Archery or Ball Trap has been updated as Quiet-Eye and defined by Vicker (2007) as the last fixation before the initiation of the action. The literature has led us to ask the question of the visual strategies used by golfers during their activities as well as the relevant clues used to initiate their shot.In addition, we were interested in whether the Quiet-Eye was a strategy implemented by the athlete under natural conditions of practice. The results of this work suggest that golfers mainly use the focal point as visual strategies.Depending on the shot played, several clues relating to the target, the ball and a marker in front of the ball are the elements most fixed by golfers. The Quiet-Eye is in natural practice settings, however it has been impossible to establish QE-Dwell on all shots played whether on so-called "long distance" shot or putting. The discussion of the results leads us to identify the main idea that during actual practice, QE-Dwell can not be set up because the pendulum movement printed to hit the ball has an impact on eye behavior by deflecting the golfer's head. In addition, the duration of QE-Pre is shorter than that recorded in several studies. We explain this phenomen on with a pre-programming beginning well before the Quiet-Eye.
