Étude préliminaire de validation du DTOA Préma, questionnaire parental pédiatrique de Dépistage des Troubles de l’Oralité Alimentaire chez les enfants nés prématurément, âgés entre 24 et 36 mois

Abstract : Feeding and eating disorders are present in 40 to 70% of the premature infants population which can threaten long-term cognitive and language growth and development. However, no French and specific screening tool exists for this population. We wanted to develop a pediatric assessment tool, the DTOA Préma. The aim of our study was to start its criterion validity, face validity and content validity.
To begin the criterion validation, 4 parents of children born prematurely (< 33 SA) aged 24 to 36 months filled out our scale and a gold standard, the MCH Feeding-Scale, during a pediatric consultation to monitor their child. To establish the face validity and content validity, two juries have been questioned : one made of 3 pediatricians, future users of the grid, and the other one made of 6 speech-language therapists, experts in feeding disorders.
The study revealed that the first criteria validation results matched those of the chosen gold standard. The face validity was high (I-CVI > 0.78 ; S-CVI / Ave > 0.9). The content validity obtained good results (I-CVI > 0.78 ; S-CVI / Ave > 0.9). The DTOA Préma should be improved by future research, and its criteria validation should be continued. Ultimately, this screening would allow pediatricians to have a valid French tool, allowing them to refer children born premature to a diagnostic consultation for EOD and thus start early care.
