Conduites suicidaires chez les populations migrantes : revue narrative de la littérature

Abstract : Suicide is a Public Health problem all around the world. It particularly concerns people with vulnerabilities. One of the most important issues of suicide prevention is better identifying population samples vulnerable to suicidal behaviour, such as migrant population. Currently, there is an increasing need for better understanding mental health problems in migrants or in people belonging to ethnic minority. Europe faces a one of the highest immigration since Second World War, with new research issues concerning psychiatric disorders in migrants. The objective of the manuscript is to review scientific literature concerning suicidal behaviour in migrants living in Europe, in order to study incidence and factors that might impact suicide risk in this population. This work gathers most of the literature on this topic. However, these estimations have to be interpreted with caution owing to methodological biases of studies. Findings are mixed and no firm conclusion can be reached. Moreover, various factors might impact in different ways suicide rates in migrants according to backgrounds, such as factors related to communities, relationships, health system, society or individuals.
