Étude de cas comparative du développement du lexique élaboré chez un adolescent sans trouble et un adolescent atteint d’un trouble développemental du langage

Abstract : Developmental Language Disorder (D.L.D.) is a severe disorder that begins in early childhood and persists over time, well beyond the period of language acquisition. Adolescents still show language deficits and delays in their development, but less data is available on this subject. Those facts motivated our questioning about the future of these children with D.L.D., and more particularly about the developement of their elaborate lexicon during these years. Indeed, the lexicon is generally an area less disturbed by the disorder, even if it remains deficient, but little data indicates whether an elaborate lexicon can be acquired on top of a simple lexicon already incomplete. We therefore decided to compare the results of two adolescents, a D.L.D. subject versus a subject without a diagnosed oral language disorder of same age. Tests extracted from standardized speech-language assessments, focusing on the study of the lexicon, were then presented to the adolescents (T.L.O.C.C., EVALEO 6-15, Fluence de Cardebat). The results showed that the D.L.D. subject is capable of acquiring terms belonging to a more elaborate lexicon, but that, just as in childhood, this acquisition is lesser compared to that of a subject without disorder. The delay is therefore not made up in adolescence, but an evolution is always possible for these subjects. Indeed, the understanding continues to evolve favorably, allowing the adolescent to understant his peers, while the expression changes with more difficulty, projecting the image of a less developed lexicon.
