Avis et ressentis des patients sur la proposition d’une consultation dédiée à la prévention pratiquée par le médecin généraliste : une étude qualitative

Abstract : Introduction: prevention suffers from a non-optimal current practice and has become the first axis of the new national health strategy. The general practitioner play a significant role in prevention. Consultations dedicated to prevention are a way of research aimed to improve prevention's practice. The objective of this study was to collect the opinions and feelings of patients on the proposal of such consultation by the general practitioner. Secondarily, it aimed to evaluate their representations, practices and expectations in prevention. Methods: qualitative study by semi-directive interviews with an "anchored theorization" approach. Twenty patients were included. The data was analyzed thematically with the software Nvivo Pro 12. Results: according to the patients, prevention is rarely a reason for consultation, is little approached by doctors, fits poorly in a rather curative health system, and sometimes suffers from a lack of credibility. A periodic consultation dedicated to prevention could alleviate some of these obstacles and have certain interests: more time given to prevention, a better impact of the messages, a strengthened doctor-patient relationship, global care, empowering patients to manage their own health, to allow health savings, to valorize the preventive acts of the doctors. Discussion: this study showed that the concept of consultation dedicated to prevention had great support from patients. Most of them think it could improve the practice of prevention. Others studies should be addressed to assess their feasibility and their outcome on patient's health.
