Contrôle des principaux insectes ravageurs de la tomate à Mayotte par l'utilisation de kaolin

Abstract : Tomatoes are one of the main market gardening crops in Mayotte. It is mainly cultivated in the open field during the dry season. Despite its economic importance, production is fragile, yields are 8 times lower than those of the mainland. The main cause of these losses are pests. The main tomato pests are Neoceratitis cyanescens, Helicoverpa armigera and Tuta absoluta. These last two insects are considered more secondary. The main means of controlling these insects is chemical control. However, in Mayotte the latter is intensive and unreasonable and it is the cause of significant health and environmental problems. The objective of this study is to test the efficacy of kaolin against, mainly Neoceratitis cyanescens, but also against, Helicoverpa armigera and Tuta absoluta. Initially, the air blast sprayer was configured using water-sensitive paper to ensure that a satisfactory application of kaolin will be obtained during the treatments. Then, the number and weight of fruits, whether marketable or not, harvested from the beds treated with kaolin, insecticide (Decis Protech®) and untreated beds, were measured. Analysis of the results showed a decrease in losses associated with Neoceratitis cyanescens on kaolin treated plants compared to other modalities. However, this reduction is not satisfactory. Regarding Helicoverpa armigera and Tuta absoluta, kaolin did not show any difference compared to the insecticide treatment and the control.
