Étudier la ville par la fiction : le cas de la mobilité des femmes à Johannesburg

Abstract : Crossing literature and geography leads us to ask what we can learn from reality, through fiction. Through the case study of women’s mobility in Johannesburg, within three contemporary realist novels, we will question the contributions of fiction to questions of mobility. In addition to copying and describing reality, literary fiction highlights the problematics of women’s mobility in Johannesburg, who are struggling with strong socio-spatial dynamics and representations resulting from apartheid. Literary fiction then becomes geography, and what if it leaves books to take over the streets?
