Évolution des connaissances et de l’engagement des jeunes dans la lutte contre le tabac, à l’issue d’un défi de réduction des risques chez les lycéens de terminale de 10 établissements de Gironde

Abstract : Youth-smoking prevention is a major public health issue. The goal is for the first generation of non- smoking youth to appear in 2032. In adequacy with these aims, the inter-high school challenge (CIL), that rests on the use rewards, offers, prior to a motivational conference, to senior year students from 10 high-schools in Gironde to stop smoking for a month, backed by CO measures. Goals: evaluate the evolution of young high school senior year students’ knowledges regarding smoking before, after the conference and after a month. Secondarily, measure the young people’s engagement in the fight against smoking on social networks and assess their appreciation. Material and method: an observational quantitative study was realized with 1357 high-school students by means of self- administrated declarative surveys including quizzes during the conference and after a month. A Facebook page was provided for them to post publication regarding the fight against smoking. Results: 60% of the students were engaged among which where 190 smokers. The knowledge assessment has proved a statistically significative evolution of these knowledges: global average going from 8.9/20 to 17.4/20 after the conference, this knowledge acquisition seeming to last with an average of 16.5/20 after 1 month. 101 posting on Facebook were published. 94% of high-school students appreciated the conference, 97% appreciated the challenges and with 21% of respond the most appreciated was “the transmitted information”. Conclusion: the CIL enabled to expand the high-school students’ knowledge and to rally them in the fight against smocking. The CIL was well received by them.
