Le ressenti des médecins généralistes du Sud Aquitaine vis-à-vis de la nouvelle politique d’obligation vaccinale : des adaptations comportementales sont-elles mises en œuvre ?

Abstract : Background: in order to improve the vaccinal cover in France and stop the resurgence of epidemics, the Department of Health, headed by Secretary of State for Health Department Mrs Agnès Buzyn, drafted the legal text n°2017-1836 providing for applying vaccinal obligation to eleven pathogens for anyone born after January 1st 2018. Legal text presented to Parliament at the end of the year 2017 and accepted. Goals: describing the feeling of general practitioners (GPs) about the new approach of vaccinal obligation and identifying if some adjustment in their ways of acting has been implemented. Method: qualitative analysis through half-directed interviews of self-employed GPs from the South of Aquitaine (Landes and Pyrénées-Atlantiques departments) between August and December 2019. Once all the data were theoretically collected, an analysis of the entirely transcribed verbatim account revealed meaningful categories. Results: most of the interviewed practitioners were generally in favour of complete vaccination campaign and of the compulsory vaccinal schedule of eleven vaccines. The vaccinal law made their consultations easier but some adjustment was necessary in both the practitioners' speech and their vaccinal behaviour towards their patients, as well as regarding the necessity to educate themselves about this new approach which sometimes came and disturbed their way of thinking about vaccination. Conclusion: vaccinal uncertainty is an important news topic nowadays, fuelled by vaccinal argument, anti-vaccine movements and social networks. GPs remain, for many parents, the main source of information about their children's vaccination. In this context, it is necessary to appreciating vaccination in terms of coordinated and easily accessible exercise, based on therapeutic education and new ways of communicating.
